1 Week of Design

20 Things I’ve noticed about Design this week. Week Beginning Monday 5th

Change your wall.

“Change it’— just as its name implies— is an innovative wall decoration that allows you to change its colors every minute. Each of the triangles used to make up the item has three different colors on their sides, including white, black and rainbow shade. Therefore, you can turn these triangles to form different pictures on the wall.”

Adobe CS 5

This week I got an email from Adobe, telling me to “Join us for the exclusive Global Online Launch Event – Monday April 12, 2010.”

This is most definately exciting news!!!!!

iPad First in Flesh Experience

Many companies and site’s have been getting their first chance to properly play with Apples new iPad. Lots of controversy with this as people don’t actually see where it’s use lies. Personally I don’t see the point in it unless you have a lot of disposable income. Coming from a big Mac fan-boy I would still love to get the chance to play around with one.

Apples, Androids and Apps – Taking Over the World One News Story at a Time

It’s inevitable that wherever you look, if you’re checking out news about mobile applications, you’re seeing that the industry is growing. It’s not just growing by a little bit either, it’s growing by leaps and bounds. For more on this article click here

10 Websites To Start Off a Creative Day

I list of sites to find out what is happening in the world and places for some truly great inspiration.

“There are plenty of sites that may inspire you to take another step on the ladder to become the ultimate designer/blogger (which we all know we’ll never be. lol). However, I want to list the sites that I find very useful and inspiring to start off the day with. Even if you’re a full on logo designer or a print artist you always need references to some great work in order to be able to think clear. It’s like sweeping the floor before you go to town knowing you’ll come home to a clean house.” Read On…..

Who We Are?

As an artist I always find it difficult describing to people what it is I do. Do I tell them I’m a graphic artist or a graphic designer? An illustrator perhaps? I do create things that go on web pages, so does that make me a web designer, too? Read More…..

Inspired Mag

I’ve just posted two articles which I found on the site Inspired Mag. So i feel that considering I only just found it I should include this is the list. It will definitely be one I keep my eyes on.

Power of Colour

How colours are used in eCommerce

New a fair bit of this but clever little article stating what mood different colours put you in and what impression they give the viewer

Serif is Back
In the past, we’ve been told not to use serif fonts due to its readability on low resolution monitors and poor rendering in WindowsXP. Now, with display technology advancing and IE7+ supporting ClearType by default, I think it is about time to change that rule. Take a look at the example sites that I’ve collected, you will probably agree with me that serif typeface will be the next web font trend.

Font Embedding
As Typekit is expanding their font list and more free quality fonts are available (e.g. FontSquirrel, OpenType, and The League of MoveableType), I think more people will use custom font embedding in the coming year.

50 Great Design Blogs
These have been listed by Google Page Rank and it is a brilliant list of some I already know about and lots of new ones.
Many of these will be getting followed in the future.
List can be viewed here

Designers Couch
They are due to launch at the end of April after alot of waiting ^_^

What is it you ask? :P
“A new design group for the world’s most progressive creative minds. DesignersCouch is a haven for designers who wish to showcase their portfolio on a professional platform, network with some of the industry’s best, and seek inspiration and knowledge from their peers.”

Twitter’s New Home Page

This was noticed a bit earlier than this week however is still irritating. On the 31st of March the Twitter home page was changed and the new design is pretty shocking in my opinion.

Red Lemon Club

Red Lemon Club is a site dedicated to helping freelancers and independent professionals looking to gain a foothold in promoting themselves effectively using fresh, new and motivating ways.

Infographics

Infographics!!!! I love them, I love the clever use of design to layout large amounts of information and done in such an aesthetically pleasing way! Far to many examples out there.

beer of america

Okay….
